With a rebel yell
Danger.
That’s what’s seeping out of the punk’s curled lip sneer on MTV in 1983.
The ex-Generation X guy.
Punk Gutter Elvis.
Smirking
Preening
Snarling
Glowering
“In the midnight hour, she cried, ‘More, more, more!’”
(One spiked fingerless glove fist pump for each “more.”)
The epitome of rock n’ roll energy, recklessness, rowdiness
The soundtrack of youth,
of forward motion,
of rebellion.
Blasting in the streets
Blaring in the hearts
Now in 2025
relegated to the soundtrack
(at a focus-group-approved volume)
of the corporate business complex fifth floor mens room.
At 11:15am on a Wednesday, Billy Idol cries “More, more, more!”
from the speaker that’s trying to distract us
from some of our least favorite human noises
blaring from the third stall
before we all get back to work.
