The Wonder, The Wild started on an over thinker’s rare lark, the impetus being to just write—lyrics, essays, poems, lists, scattered thoughts, gathered thoughts, along with the occasional iPhone song recording (oh, I’m also a musician and it took everything I had not to put musician in quotes to make it seem sarcastic and defang it). Subscribers get full access to the newsletter and website.

So far, that’s meant ramblings and bits about:

  • Legendary bassist Carol Kaye

  • Nick Drake

  • Vastly underrated Duluth, MN band Low

  • The Spotify algorithm

  • Ozzy Osbourne & Father’s Day

  • Darlene Love’s version of “Baby, Please Come Home”

  • Grief

  • Gripes

  • Swearing

  • My favorite music of 2022 (lots of playlists going around on this sub stack)

  • Life as a creative director

  • Toad The Wet Sprocket & The Friend Zone

  • I think there’s, like, my take on a Bible story in there

  • Pearl Jam

  • Mortality

  • Getting hit by a car

  • Plenty of U2 references

  • More than a few links to stuff Amanda Petrusich writes

  • A first kiss on an elementary school playground

  • Bobby Knight and the voice in your head

  • An apology to Animal Collective

  • Meditations on a plane

  • Meditations on the sizes of cancer

  • Palpitations about becoming washed

  • Some short lists of things I’m currently enjoying

  • Quite a few RIP posts: Cormac McCarthy, Sinead O’Connor, Tom Verlaine, Mimi Parker, and more

  • Some new songs I’ve released

  • Underrated albums by: The Lemonheads, U2, Deconstruction, Sinead O’Connor, and more.
