Some of the best advice I ever heard about being a creator or artist came from one of my musical heroes, producer/songwriter Joe Henry.
To be clear, Joe wasn’t talking to me. I have sent him fanmail1 but this isn’t part of that. This piece of advice was passed on to me by my friend songwriter/photographer/ Renaissance man Ryan Tanner who is actually friends with Mr. Henry. Ryan was talking to Joe about the difficulty of trying to live a creative life in a commercial/capitalist world, about the soul-sucking part where you feel like nobody cares what you make.
Joe’s advice?
One foot after the other.
In the spirit of keep going, I write this short little nudge for myself, having run aground over the last month or so, shoving out just a bit to try the waters, while also connivingly motivating myself by telling you all I’m back.
I’m back?
Really.
